Who We Are
Big Heart for Small Heart Foundation is a non-profit charity organization located in the Netherlands, facilitating humanitarian medical missions in less fortunate countries around the world bringing life-saving treatment to children with congenital heart diseases.
World Health Organization
Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) is an enormous problem in low-middle-income countries around the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates there are 15 million children born every year with CHD and up to 10% of these children will not survive their first year of life if untreated.
A heart defect is a problem in the ‘heart’s structure'. Children who have a heart defect were born with it and these heart defects are often called "congenital" which means "present at birth". Heart defects can range from mild to severe and as stated before 10% of these children might not survive their first year. There are many different types of congenital heart defects. Some are commonly called a “hole in the heart” because they involve an abnormal connection between the heart's chambers, it can be an narrowed heart valve or abnormal connections of the blood vessels to the heart or parts of the heart that are too small or too narrow to work properly.
We currently operate in mainly poor countries around the world where there is a high prevalence of congenital heart disease. In
these countries we work closely with local organisations and hospitals;
Egypt, Morocco, Libya, Sudan, Mauretania, Kenia, Tanzania, Nigeria, Djibouti, Yemen, Bangladesh.
FOUNDATION ACT
We founded the Big Heart for Small Heart Foundation in April 2022 as a Non Profit Organisation by Notary Act. Enclosed you find the Notary Act in Dutch.
CoC Registration
Our BHfSH is registered at the Chamber of Commerce in Roermond, The Netherlands in April 2022. Enclosed you find the CoC Registration in Dutch.
Management Board
Our BHfSH board is currently formed by 6 board members + supervisory committee . All board members are involved within the medical profession or closely related to it and have many years of experience performing humanitarian missions.
INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN AID ORGANISATIONS
We work closely together with international Humanitarian Aid organisations to support their humanitarian medical pediatric cardiology missions and coordinate the availability of required medical teams and medical supplies

Al medical products, instruments and devices are supplied to by international manufacturing companies against special conditions. All suppliers are family members of the BHfSH-Family
LOGISTICAL PARTNERS
Logistics and proper documentation according to international and local standards are an essential part of the coordination and organisation of humanitarian aid missions. For this, we are working closely together with experienced and reliable shipping and customs handling companies
